The Owner of Sweet Green Photography

Where does my passion for photographing children, families, and pets come from?

  1. When I was growing up, my parents did a fantastic job of capturing my childhood.  The everyday, the special occasions, the formal portraits.  I want to share my abilities and gifts with your family.  I want to help your family remember all the moments that I’m thankful to have.  I want to be there to watch your children grow up and preserve those moments for you.
  2. I just love being around children!  We connect with each other, and I love their beautiful simplicity but also appreciate and understand their complexities.
  3. As an artist, I get a kick out of the creative challenge and the preceding magic that photography provides.  I can’t wait to see fine art gallery wrap canvases up on your walls only weeks after I’ve photographed your family.  Call it my mission, if you will. 😉 (I wrote an entire post about my personal obsession with them here.)

WHen I look back at every photo I

Hello!  I’m Steph, the owner of Sweet Green Photography, and I’m crazy passionate about what I do. 🙂

My photographic style is a fresh mix of both posed and candid portraits.  Because I’m an artist, design is always on my mind.  I’m also driven to capture the candid.  But my 7 years of experience posing people in a studio easily allows me to properly position and photograph anyone from a newborn baby to a family of 40.  I can’t help but guide people into poses!

Because I am such a huge fan of recording family life and childhood experiences in their natural environments, I photograph solely on location.  You can learn more about that unique, customized Sweet Green Experience that I provide here.

I was a Yearbook Nerd (yes, that is a link that will take you to that story!) in high school at O’Fallon Township High School, and my formal education in photography began at Southwestern Illinois College with my Associate of Arts (another link – to my earliest work!).

In 2005, I graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and majored in Photography and Drawing.  In 2006, I began photographing professionally, working with thousands of families as both a photographer and manager at a portrait studio.  Early on, I was lovingly dubbed “Manager of Kid Happiness” by coworkers and displayed a gift for working with toddlers and special needs children.

I’m also proud to call myself a member of Professional Photographers of America, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, and Leads Group 7.

Thanks to a family camping trip when I was little, I’ve been dreaming of living in Colorado since I was about 7 years old.  After living in the St. Louis area my entire life, I finally moved out here in October of 2014 with my husband Nick and my dog Max.  It’s more wonderful than I ever imagined!  When I’m not exploring a new park or Open Space with Max, I’m probably listening to 1950s or 90s music and cooking a new Mexican-inspired recipe.  In additional to cheese enchiladas, I also love Starbucks’ Very Berry Hibiscus Refreshers (no water sub black tea), the smell of mountain forests, playing cards with my parents, and vacationing in Hawaii with Nick.  And nothing beats a Midwest winery or a St. Louis Cardinals game at Busch Stadium!

I’ve written some blog posts that may give you more insight into who I am and what’s important to me.  Click here to go to that collection of posts.

If you want to keep up with me, I update Sweet Green Photography on Facebook most frequently.  Click below to be brought to it and give it a Like, would ya? 😉
